Who we are

Hi there!

I’m Debbie, I’m an executive assistant by day, blogger and aspiring online entrepreneur by night, and always learning something new. I live in Atlanta, have a lot of hobbies, but alas, too little time.

It’s really weird how I love Spanish (language, music, food, culture), and at the same time (being half Asian) I also love Asian food & culture. Imagine how torn I felt in my 30s, living in the USA, speaking English & Spanish. Talking about identity crisis! I had to do some soul searching and read lots of books to find myself. The conclusion was that I’m a global citizen, traveling this world temporarily. Totally cool with that!

During the what-am-I-going-to do-with-rest-of-my-life stage, my hubby suggested to study Spanish. Since I love languages, I joined two local universities as a nontraditional student to earn my bachelor’s in Spanish, followed by a certification in translations and started my own translation business.

A few years ago I discovered all the possibilities of the online world and the opportunities it offered… so I dove in and have been learning and teaching myself ever since. Blogging, web design, HTML, WordPress, Affiliate Marketing, SEO, virtual assistance. I think it’s official, I’m a geek! And maybe one day, I can make a full-time living with this too.

Following my eternal thirst for knowledge, I picked up crochet two years ago and learned with video instruction and written patterns how to make headbands, scarves, etc. My mom is incredibly creative and I must have it from her, because she used to crochet too but I just never picked up then. I also enjoy sewing (taught by mom), paper crafting (cards and scrapbooking), making jewelry and writing.

There is just something about letting the creative juices flow that brings me to my happy place. That’s why I love to dance, cook and read fiction too. One other thing to add is traveling, learning about other countries, their history and culture. I’ve been to the Netherlands, Belgium, Mexico, Caribbean, Chile, but I have many more on my bucket list, like Spain (of course), France, Portugal, Colombia (Cartagena), Panama, Argentina, Brazil and Thailand.

You see, this is why my husband calls me a spider, using all my legs or arms and never have a dull moment! More than 25 years ago we moved from Suriname to the U.S. and when we saw the natural beauty of Metro Atlanta, Georgia, we got hooked and never left. However, we have to admit that the idea of being closer to a beach or lake gets more attractive each year (Atlanta can get cold!) and maybe someday we’ll join the snowbirds in Florida, who knows?

For now I’m content to be near my family, which includes four sons (2 stepsons), their lovely wives and 16 grandkids. Yes, that makes for a very busy family life, but we enjoy every minute of family madness, especially during the holidays.

We hope you’ll enjoy our crazy, or not so crazy inspiring stories!

Love,
Debbie
